Arthritis Research Canada

With more than 100 different types, arthritis is now the most costly chronic disease and the number one cause of work disability in Canada. The number of Canadians affected by arthritis is now more than 5.6 million, which includes over 700,000 British Columbians. This represents one in six of us suffering with the pain of arthritis. Arthritis Research Canada is committed to leading research, finding answers and saving lives. Our mission is to transform the lives of people living with arthritis through research and engagement. Our vision is a future where research-based services, tools and knowledge empower people living with arthritis to triumph over pain and disability.

In 2000, Arthritis Research Canada was established by world-renowned scientist and rheumatologist Dr. John Esdaile and a dedicated Board of Directors. Together, they shared a vision to conduct practical research for everyday living. Research that would immediately touch and improve the lives of people living with arthritis through more timely and cost effective solutions. Today, Arthritis Research Canada is the largest arthritis research organization in North America and includes three centres; British Columbia, Alberta and Quebec. With a dedicated team of more than 70 research scientists and staff, Arthritis Research Canada’s work in arthritis prevention, early diagnosis and treatment, and quality of life issues is internationally recognized.

Arthritis Research Canada’s patient-driven research is reducing the burden of arthritis and providing people with arthritis more timely and cost-effective solutions to address their healthcare needs, right now.
